Hi Everyone,
My name is Emily and I’m a licensed and practicing Occupational Therapist and Certified Pediatric Sleep Sense Consultant. It feels surreal to say that second part because I was just where (I’m assuming) you are.
Both of my kids were not easy sleepers. My daughter has special needs and needed a lot of intervention and my son had colic and was extremely high needs. It was just such a struggle to get them down for any naps or sleep in general. My husband and I dreaded night times because there wasn’t any relief there either. We were just stuck in an exhausted cycle, which contributed heavily to my postpartum anxiety and depression.

When we decided to get more serious about sleep training, I doubled down on my research and started putting it into practice. This is when we began to see a huge difference. My son began to sleep 10-12 hours each night, and I was finally able to lay him down independently for naps. There was no more holding him for every nap, or having him frantically searching to nurse any time he awoke. His colic symptoms improved and he was acting like a different baby – a happy baby! We hadn’t seen this before. For the first five months of his life, he was getting maybe 7-8 hours of sleep on average in a 24 hour period. It’s not that we didn’t try. We tried all the tricks in the book, or so I thought. It was also hard to hold him for restorative sleep while chasing my toddler around who has special needs. Once we all started getting more sleep there was no turning back. With lots of prayer and support I felt called to create Rested Haus.
As an Occupational therapist and a mom, I have a very good understanding of kids and development and know that we function best and thrive when we are getting good rest. I want to empower parents and give them the tools they need to teach their child to sleep well. I also want your baby to get the sleep they need to flourish, develop, interact and socialize. This may sound like a sales pitch, but for me this is what passion sounds like! When you have something good, you want to share it with others, especially when you were once in a dark place and don’t want anyone to be in that same place. I want this sweet and challenging stage for every parent to be one of joy and not of dread.
I am excited to be able to help you with someone as special as your baby and something as important as sleep.
